Lesson
South got into a competitive sequence that included some science by everyone. East bid 3D. This was alerted as showing a limit spade raise or better. If East had just a normal spade raise he would have bid 3S. If he has more than a limit raise, he goes on to game on the next round after first cue-bidding 3D. South has good cards in the minor suits and bids 4D to show a willingness to compete. Even 5D is not out of the question with these good minor suit cards. Somewhat surprisingly, the bidding screeched to a stop and South got to play in 4D. West led the queen of spades, overtaken by East with the king of spades. East made the obvious switch to a heart, the three, and West cashed the jack and ace of hearts, giving the defenders three tricks. West switched to a diamond and South drew the rest of the trumps, which divided 2-2. At this point South can make the rest of the tricks if he can guess where the queen of clubs is. Like so many hands, South is cold for his contract if only he can take a good view. Question: How does declarer figure out where the queen of clubs is located?
