Lesson
East opened a strong notrump and South decided to get into the bidding. The first decision is whether to bid. The next decision is what to bid. With a good six card suit and with some shape, bidding against an opening notrump is a good idea. If you pass, they get to use their favorite conventions and usually will reach a good contract. If you bid, you make life hard for them and also you may find that you can make a contract of your own. With good spots in hearts, you should not be hurt too badly if things are bad. If South is not using a convention, he can bid 2H. If using a convention he may have to bid something other than 2H. The DONT convention is a popular treatment. It stands for Disturbing Opponents' No Trump, an invention of Larry Cohen and Marty Bergen. Thanks guys. If you know about DONT, you will know the proper bid with this hand. Question: Do you know it?
